Civil, Family, and Administrative Appeals and Writs

Fees

The attorney's fees on appeal vary significantly depending on many factors including the length of the record, the complexity of the issues and other procedural matters. An appellate attorney must review the record on appeal, which can in itself take many hours, and then must research the statutes, cases, and other legal authorities that apply in each situation. Some attorneys have likened an appeal to writing a short story, or in some cases a novel, for each appeal. While a simple appeal can take as few as 50-100 hours, a complex appeal has been known to take several hundred hours to complete.
